The Sixth Form
Sixth Form

Dear Student,
Why choose Alton Convent Sixth Form? The simplest answer I can offer you is: Because it has been designed specifically for you.
We listened to the ideas of students and what they wanted, so we have a wide choice of AS/A Level subjects, and an extra-curricular programme to cater for each individual - both on and off site. Purpose built accommodation, away from the main building, was considered important to give our sixth formers a sense of individuality and privacy. The transition into the Sixth Form here will be a natural progression. You will know your friends and your teachers – and they will know you and your potential. No time will be lost in getting to know new systems and new people. There will be pastoral support and we will work with you to develop your individuality and independence. You will be prepared for the next step into Higher Education or vocational training.
" Is Society’s Obsession with Body Image Healthy?" - VI Form Conference
Extra-curricular | Sixth Form

It appears that the way the many people feel about their body image verges on the obsessional! There is little doubt that the culture and time in which we live determines how we all view body image - but are we as a society becoming more obsessed with ‘the body beautiful’? For many people the idea that they do not fit the ‘normal body’ image is very stressful.
These issues and many more were explored at Alton Convent Sixth Form Conference. More than ever women, and increasingly men, are feeling the squeeze, with the same enormous pressure, to achieve physical perfection. From compulsive weightlifting to steroid use, from hair styles to cosmetic surgery, growing numbers of men and women are taking the quest for perfect muscles, skin, and hair to new levels.

Girls go to the Races
Extra-curricular | Sixth Form

The girls of the sixth form took an evening at the races, taking the opportunity to dress up and study the form. Set on top of the Sussex Downs, Goodwood is not only a breathtaking backdrop for the very finest flat racing, but it also offers the girls the chance to socialise and relax after A2 and A/S examinations.
By kind permission of the event organisers the girls were allowed discounted entrance into the Richmond enclosure. During every race a new surge of energy was released, creating a buzz throughout the stands. Some of the upper sixth came home with a little less money in their purses whereas others in the group had great wins!
VI Form Visit to New York
Residential | Sixth Form

We all know Frank Sinatra wanted "to be a part of it", but for four days in March that's exactly what a group of Sixth Form girls were - a part of "New York, New York".
The main focus of our visit was a conference on world issues at the United Nations, giving us the opportunity to broaden our views on topics such as Child Poverty in the 21st Century and Environmental Challenges. Chaired by Peter Luff, the conference included speakers from the Departments of Political and Economic & Social Affairs as well as the UN Environment Programme, all of whom gave us the chance to explore ideas and question our own beliefs through enlightening discussions.
Bond, James Bond!

Casino Royale was the theme for the spring ball that was held on Saturday 14th March for years 10 to 13. Though 007 was unable to be there in person his presence was noticeable due to the larger than life cutouts that framed the entrance to the Welsford Hall and the large banner hanging from the Marian Hall ceiling.
A Bucks fizz reception was held in the Marian Hall whilst guests were arriving and having their photographs taken. They then walked through a "tunnel of fairy lights" to reach the Welsford Hall where dinner was to be served by the teachers. Tables had been named after each Bond film and were decorated with Monopoly money, chocolate casino chips and confetti comprising hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs complete with red and black balloons.
Charley Boorman - An evening of humour and compassion
Extra-curricular | Sixth Form

“He’s just such a lovely man…” “What a smashing, easy going, ordinary yet far from ordinary individual …”
People were describing a performer who at one stage nearly fell off the stage in his enthusiasm. That performer was no other than Charley Boorman, well known to everyone for his hugely successful television series and books, Long Way Round, Race to Dakar, Long Way Down and most recently, this time without his best friend Ewan McGregor, By Any Means.
Arts Week / Lourdes Party
Arts | Key Stage 2 | Sixth Form
At the end of arts week the sixth form organized a disco, which was really fun. The first thing we did was pass the parcel. I did not win, but I did get a little sweet. Then we had a dance competition. I got a little bar of chocolate. Then the sixth-formers served drinks and biscuits, which were yummy. I then had my face painted, which was lots of fun!
Comedy Revue
Drama | Sixth Form
0n the 12th February Alton Convent School and Salesian College sixth forms joined together for an evening of comedy, drama and music. The aim was to raise funds in order to send handicapped children to Lourdes. The evening provided the audience with fantastic entertainment whilst socializing over a ploughman’s supper.
Some of the acts were original whilst others were taken from famous scripts such as Rowan Atkinson’s Elementary Dating, Fawlty Towers and songs from Mamma Mia, Wicked and the Spice Girls. There was a huge variety of entertainment from a musical interlude on the flute and hallelujah to a performance of rugby ballet and stand up comedy.
