Rationale
Charity work and fundraising at Alton Convent School draws inspiration from, and is firmly rooted in, the Scriptures and Catholic teaching.

To ensure that all pupils and staff have the opportunity to be involved in charity work and fundraising within the School.

- To enable pupils within the School to develop an understanding of the different needs of others and to increase their awareness of the causes of poverty and injustice
- To give pupils a deeper understanding of the charitable works and needs of different ethnic and religious groups
- To empower pupils to feel that they can make a difference by their actions
- To encourage co-operation within the vertical system of House Teams in the Senior School to widen friendships and build closer links within the Prep and Senior School
- To promote closer relationships within year groups as they work towards a common aim
- To promote a sense of common aim and purpose within the Prep and Senior School
- To develop leadership and teamwork abilities as pupils work together to achieve their goal of fundraising
Procedures
Planned charity provision
House team charities
House teams nominate their chosen charity and identify ways in which they will raise funds for this. Ideas are reviewed by SLT/USMG/PSMG and, if accepted, appropriate arrangements are made.
Year group charities
Year groups fund raise for specific events and charities agreed by SLT. Charities supported by year groups may be supported by an individual year group or by all year groups working at the same time.
Whole School Charity
Charity events and fundraising may be organised by the whole Prep School, the whole Senior School or the whole School working together. Before these take place they will be agreed by the Headmistress and SLT.
Emergency responses
In response to international emergences fundraising events may take place in the School at short notice with the permission of the Headmistress.
Staff will have responsibilities to assist with and organise charity events as directed and requested by the Headmistress.
