What happens about books and equipment?
Each student in the senior school has a desk or shelf space in her classroom and a lockable locker; pupils in the prep department have trays. Books should be kept in these.
Help them to bring home only what is needed for each night’s homework. You will receive a Homework Timetable and a Lesson Timetable.
Having a duplicate pencil case and equipment at home may be a help.
It is wise - and makes for calmer mornings - if the school bag is packed and checked against the timetable the night before.
If new pupils in the senior school get in a muddle no teacher will be cross if they have to ask to fetch a forgotten book from their Form Room. The Form Tutor will help them to organise the day so that books are sorted out first thing in the morning, at break and then at lunchtime. They should not carry bags around the school with books loaded for a whole day. Bags and books with Year 7 can be like a ‘security blanket’. Similarly, anxious pupils tend to carry every single book to and from school. This is not sensible or necessary - and is certainly not good for their backs.
