What are the main differences between primary and secondary school?

|

The skills, approaches, expectations and organisation will be different.

  • There will be a Form Tutor who will register twice a day, lead the Personal. Social and Moral Education programme (PSME) and play a pastoral role. This teacher may teach them for some lessons but a typical Year 7 pupil can expect to be taught by 14 or more teachers.
  • The timetable requires them to move from room to room with all the equipment and books necessary.
  • The books to carry will be more numerous, bigger and heavier.
  • They will need to be responsible about organising a Homework Diary and Timetable to hand in work on time.
  • The concentration span will need to be longer. They will need to write for longer and be able to use books for research. They are expected to sit still and not move freely around the classroom .
  • The day is longer. Break, lunch and getting home are later.
  • Some will need to get up earlier because they have a long journey. Make sure your daughter knows what to do if she is ever delayed. Keep your contact number up to date with her.
