Sixth Form Life

You will find it exciting learning to take responsibility for yourself and your studies. We look forward to teaching enthusiastic and responsible students. As a small group, you will find that the support and friendship of your peers is important whilst at the same time you will have all the help you need from the staff.

Time management becomes very much your responsibility. You already have good study habits and now you organise the timing of assignments too. You will have a study planner to help your organisation and each of your subjects will provide you with guidance to help direct your studies.

‘Being the best that you can be’ are the key words of our sixth form.

Much is said in large sixth form institutions about the quality of pastoral care and the regular monitoring of students. One of the single most advantageous features of attending our Sixth Form Centre is that any problems of attendance and achievement are noticed immediately. There are regular target setting and monitoring meetings with key dates for review and reporting.

Attendance at lessons is expected and you will have a daily registration with your Sixth Form Tutor chosen at a time to suit the majority of the group. During study time, you may wish to leave the site and a book for signing out is in the General Office.

You will be expected to work hard, to set targets for AS and A2 level and plan how these will be met. You will then be supported to help meet these targets and to review your progress. Each girl is interviewed at the start of the year to set the initial targets and subject teachers discuss and review these with each individual girl half-termly. Students are encouraged to write a self-evaluation for each subject and to discuss their own perceptions of how they are progressing. The majority of AS modules will be in June at the end of your first year but some of you may sit the first units in January, four months after beginning your course.

We do, however, want you to have a wide experience and some relaxation, so extra curricular activities for individuals will be encouraged. We aim to offer a satisfying mix of cultural, sporting and social activities, many of which will take place off site. There will be trips, visits and activities for you as a whole group. These will usually be decided by you and may well vary from year to year.

The Personal Development and Leadership weekend at Tregoyd House always proves a big hit – tiring, challenging but filled with a sense of achievement. Successful links are maintained with other Sixth Forms including field trips, sports fixtures, conferences, social events and the annual trip to Lourdes with the Salesian College to help with disabled children.
