Can you provide more details about the structure of the day in the prep school?
Start of the Day
The school day begins at 8.45 am and ends at 3.30pm for Key Stage One and 3.40pm for Key Stage Two. Outside these times parents are responsible for their children.
It is our policy to allow children onto the school premises from 8.30am prior to the official starting time of 8.45am. No children are allowed onto the school premises before 8.30am. We do, however, make it clear to parents that there is no direct supervision provided before 8.40am. Parents are advised that they may like to remain in the playground to supervise their own children until that time. However, an optional 'Breakfast Club' provides supervised care from 8:00 am onwards - details are available from the General Office.
The school bell is rung at 8.45am. Children up to Year 1 may then proceed to their cloakroom and classroom. Children from Year 2 up line up in the playground and wait to be escorted into class by their teacher
During wet weather children may wait in the Marian Hall until the school bell is rung.
Break, 10:30 am - 11:00 am
Small playground equipment is available for the children to use. It must be collected from one of the Year 6 prefects who oversees the distribution and return of equipment.
KS1 children play on the lower playground and are supervised by two staff members. KS2 children play on the tennis courts and are supervised by two staff members. The Welfare Officer is available for all children at this time.
Children should be encouraged to use the toilets during the break period. Children must use the bins for any rubbish.
At the end of break staff should blow the whistle first, so that children can proceed straight away to the lining up point. When all children are assembled, a second whistle will be blown. Children must be silent before entering the school.
Wet breaks
Children are supervised in their own or others' classrooms, by staff assisted by a number of Year 6 prefects.
Play equipment and videos will be distributed at the class teacher’s discretion.
Lunch 12.00pm – 1.10pm
Lunchtime commences at 12.00pm. KS1 Children immediately go to wash their hands, and then lead in to the Marian Hall with their teacher. A bell is rung and grace is said. We expect lunch to be a social occasion. KS2 children will go to the playground. A bell will be rung for the 2nd sitting at 12.40 pm.
Hot Lunch
Hot lunch is compulsory for Nursery pupils. KS1 children are encouraged to have a hot lunch but do have the option of sandwiches. Children having hot lunch must complete a lunch form and book for the whole school term. Lunches are charged in advance and are included on the school bill. A hot lunch menu is produced weekly. Parents may obtain a copy from the general office.
Packed Lunch
Children who bring their own packed lunch are asked to provide a napkin to lay their meal on. Fizzy drinks and glass bottles are not permitted. Lunch ends at 1.10 pm and children may leave the hall when all at their table have finished eating. Staff will accompany children returning to the class or cloakroom to deposit lunch boxes.
Any concerns regarding the children in matters of eating habits, behaviour and general social interaction should be reported to the class teacher.
End of the Day
At the end of the school day it is expected that children will be collected from the playground at 3.30pm (KS1) or 3:40pm (KS2) unless prior arrangements have been made with their teacher. Children will only be released into the care of their parents or guardians, unless the school has been informed of other arrangements.
Children travelling by school coach must assemble after 3.40pm in the Science Room or other designated area. A register will be taken and the children will be escorted to a classroom for supervised homework. They will then be taken to the coaches at 4.00 pm.
After School Care is available until 5:30 pm each day, at an additional cost, presently £8 per session. Prep staff run a number of extracurricular clubs from 3:45pm to 4:30pm - further details are available on request.
