Uniform rules: senior school

General Presentation
There is a small stock of second-hand uniform and there is a second-hand senior uniform sale every term. As we aim to keep the pupils looking as tidy as possible we will not accept as second-hand any items of uniform which are not in pristine condition. We expect the pupils’ uniform to remain in excellent condition through their five years. The jumper should be replaced when it looks thin. Pupils should not wear any garment with holes or tears.

Blazer
The school blazer must always be worn to and from school - whether girls are dropped off in the school car park or have to catch a bus. The school requires a smart appearance. Any types of anoraks or ski jackets etc are not acceptable and will be confiscated.

Scarf and Gloves

Only the uniform scarf is permitted. All other scarves will be confiscated. Gloves should be plain grey, dark or navy blue.

Skirts & Shirt
Summer uniform may be worn at the beginning of the academic year (excluding Year 7 girls) and after Easter. Winter shirts must always be tucked inside the waistband of the skirt and long-sleeved shirts must be buttoned up at the cuffs – summer shirts are worn over the summer skirt. All top buttons should be fastened.

Socks
Girls must wear white ankle socks not trainer style with the summer uniform and grey ankle socks with the winter uniform. In winter black 30 or 40D opaque tights may be worn and in summer 20D neutral tights.

Shoes
Girls should wear a pair of suitable flat heeled, plain black, leather shoes (as distinct from suede or patent or patterned or canvas). They should be shoes and not boots. Girls will be expected to keep their shoes clean and polished at all times. High-heeled platform shoes are not acceptable. Parents should not purchase any shoe style that is not suitable or sensible and jeopardizes the girls’ safety on the school stairs.

Hair
While we respect the girls’ individuality and the dictates of fashion, usually reflected through various hairstyles, we do ask the girls to wear their hair away from their faces and if it is long, tied back. It is easier to work without a curtain of hair obscuring vision. It is also extremely dangerous in practical subjects. Hair bands, ruffles, hair slides should be plain blue, black or brown. If girls wish to dye/colour their hair, we ask them to do so at the onset of the school holidays so that it may be totally washed out by the beginning of a school term (if it is not the girl will be asked to go home). Any intense changes of hair colour may result in parents being asked to take girls to a hairdresser to restore the normal hair colour.

Jewellery
The girls are only allowed to wear:
• One single plain ring.
• A chain with a cross.
• One pair of matching stud earrings, at the bottom of the ear lobes. (Any extraneous ear-piercing must be done at the beginning of long holidays as any extra studs will have to be removed during school time whether the hole may close or not).
• No bracelets of any kind or description may be worn – including woven ‘friendship bracelets’ or ‘charity bands’.

Any other item will be confiscated and returned at the end of the current school term.
