Go Green

The prep school are going green. We have registered our school with the Generation Green website and are working towards earning 'leaves' for the school. Recently we held a 'green' assembly, led by Mr Walker, who showed the children a picture of the world at night. It was shocking to see how many areas were not lit up. All those places that do not have electricity at night, worse still, it really showed how much light some countries were using.
We talked about our planet and the impact we are having on it. The children had lots of ideas on how we can help individually and as a school. As a result, classes have appointed a 'light' monitor to make sure that lights are switched off when no-one is in the room, and our environmental monitors, Sara and Izzy will be taking a keen interest on if this happening.
We have set up our 'green' notice board and children have been encouraged to write poems, which will be displayed. Our 'eco' team will be discussing other ways we can help reduce our 'carbon footprint'.
We do need to collect a lot of 'leaves' to redeem against a number of exciting rewards, from weather stations to wormeries. This is where we would like parents to help. All you have to do is log on to www.generationgreen.co.uk and complete the energy home survey. This takes about 5 minutes and will give you suggestions on how to reduce your bills, so it is worthwhile doing for its own sake. At the end you are able to donate the leaves you have earned to our school by entering the postcode (GU34 2NG) and finding Alton Convent on the list of schools registered.
We hope that you will feel able to help us in this. Thank you.
