The Chase
The Chase
I scrambled on. If anything would stop me it would be my pursuer. I looked over my shoulder. He was lumbering on, obviously trying to get me. As I came up a hill I felt it. My legs slowed so I pushed my last strenght forward. Suddenly I got to the top of the hill and almost screamed. The dreaded wood, where I had made the fire the night before, was in front of me. I carried on going, into the wood. The branches brushed my hair into tangles and brambles snagged and scrathced my legs. I wanted to scream out loud but I darted into a bush and all of a sudden my legs stopped and I collapsed. I found myself plunged into darkness. I felt a warm hand on my shoulder. I rolled over.
Flopsey was running out of breath. She knew she couldn't hop much farther. Hoppety-hop, sniff-sniff. She didn't have the usual bounce and spring in her hop as she always used to. Her heart was pounding so fast that you couldn't hear the separate heartbeats. When she heard foxy's footsteps running even closer, her heart froze. Then, she saw a small hole in the ground and hopped down it. Luckily Foxy couldn't get in it because he was too big. But, as Flopsey was looking round for some comforts, she heard a snarling growl behind her and spun around. The hole was filled with foxes. She dug for her life but she was too slow and a fox caught her by the ear. She couldn't do anything as she was dragged helplessly down the tunnel.
I was running through brambles and branches, trying my hardest to run but I couldn't. My legs were killing me. My arms were straining from the cane. I couldn't climb over the school gate.... I just couldn't. I could hear my teacher coming up behind me and I knew that she was going to get me now. I tried once more but it was too late. She had me in her arms and.... I knew this was the end.
Would I ever find my way back home? No, it would be impossible. If only I had waited where I was, surely Olivia and Katie would have come. Tain stung my cheeks. Where was Bracken? That dog was really silly.
"Katie, Olivia, where are you?" I shouted. My voice echoed. Bracken went past. I chased her, my legs flopping. I stumbled over. Bracken kept on running. I followed her. She looked really small as she was so far away. She slowed down and I grabbed her by the collar and put her lead on. I heard voices.
"Katie, Olivia, is that you?"
I chased the voices. They grew quieter and quieter. Would I find them? Brambles brushed against my legs. My legs were swollen. I kept chasing the voices. I would not give up! I rushed and tumbled. A growling sound was behind me. I ran. Maybe Olivia and Katie wouldn't find me. But I didn't care about them now- I cared about myself. Whatever was behind me it didn't sound good.
"Come on Bracken, quickly!" We fled. At last we reached the open air but it was not over yet. A shadow cast over me.
We jumped over the fence an through the long grass. Rain blinded me and I staggered into a tall tree. Vicki called me on, but I couldn't move my right leg at all. I turned my head around and I saw the most enormous dog, running straight for me, with its teeth bared. Vicki ran to me and we both ran, with my leg dragging behind me. The dog sprinted and then pounced on me. My eyes closed.
Looking around me I saw Vicki knelt down beside me. Blood trickled down my face and my leg throbbed with pain. We pushed the branches away but somehow we still got tangled in them. The rain had stopped but now it was hailing. Hail the size of gold balls.
