Tsunami

Tsunami

(An exercise in using short, sharp sentences for effect.)

He was terrified.Quickly, he ran to the back of the boat and tried his hardest to turn the boat around, but it would not turn. He ran back and saw the anchor had slipped into the water. Quick as lightning he hauled it up with all his might. Then he ran to the stern and began to steer it carefully in the opposite direction. But he was too late. The roar became deafening and he fainted with shock. With an enormous crash the wave took over the boat and smashed it completely into shreds. Andy never opened his eyes again.

He began to panic, rushing around the boat like a lunatic. Then he stopped. Nothing could save him except for one thing. Did he want to die and stay with his boat? Or did he want to live but be stranded in the water? He would jump in, he said to himself. Then thoughts raced through his mind. Once again, he felt the nerves coming. They were different this time.
What if he drowned?
Would someone come?
Then he stopped dead in his tracks. The wave was almost upon them.
He took a deep breath. As he stepped to the side of the boat it wobbled dangerously.
"1,2,3....Go!" he whispered.
Glugg.... He was gone.

Andy froze. He was so incredibly petrified that for a moment everything inside him stopped. He only came to his senses when he felt the most powerful force hit him. He fell back overboard. The Quintand was swallowed up by the towering wave.
Andy choked as he went under the surface and the sound of rushing water filled his ears. Andy opened his eyes. He was lying on the bottom of the sea bed. He caught a glimpse of a school of fish zipping about. Then he felt a terrible pain in his lungs. It grew and grew. Cutting through the air. There was only one thing that could stop it. Death.
