The U9 team had quite a deal of experience of this competition as they played last year and came 8th. Sadly plagued by illnes Alton lost their form player and striker for this tournament and had no suitable replacement. Yet despite this the boys took their first game by the scruff of the neck a won it with a goal by James L. Seven games to go the boys kept going and did not show any flagging; their fitness levels was excellent. They lacked cohesiveness and confidence against bigger and more skillful teams but they never gave up. The final results that the team came 5th with one win and three draws (in two games they hit the post... but hey, that's football!) and three defeats. However the scoreline reads 1 for and only 4 against which bettered most other teams. This scoreline was largely due to the exceptional goal keeping of Ben. Christain (Yr3) was fearless in attack and defence. Harry C was Mr Consistency ably supported by James B. Max and John worked hard in defence. James L could only work his magic sparingly. Ben was Alton's player of the tournament and a big thank you to Mrs Boyson, our sole supporter, who not only supplied the team with oranges but matched the coach's screams of instruction and agony.
