Year 5 Residential Trip to the Isle of Wight

A residential school trip offers many opportunities for learning outside of the classroom. On the Isle of Wight trip, Year 5 experiences encompassed Art, History, Geography and Independent living skills amongst other things.

They experienced life as servants at Osborne House under the supervision of 'Mrs Pilkington' then had the opportunity to become lords and ladies at Carisbrooke Castle, (while also learning about the different arrow heads and what they were used for!).

Apart from the statues and paintings at Osborne House, the children watched glass making, sketched headlands and had hands on experience of making sculptures in the sand.
We were well looked after at the Hotel we have used for many years and even won the trophy for being the best school.
The trip to Alum Bay, when children have the opportunity to see the different colours of sands and have a boat ride to the Needles, gives them a living example into the Geography we have been studying on coastal erosion, this was also the subject when the week finished with a trip to Ventnor Coastal centre and the children discovered for themselves what is being done to protect the coastline.
