Dear Parents,

The end of a school year is a good opportunity to look back, as our Upper Prep pupils did in their review of the year at Presentation Afternoon, and our Year 6 leavers did at this morning’s Mass. As I have been reading through the children’s reports, it has struck me how much all the children have achieved over the course of the year, in their academic studies of course, but also in music, art and drama, in sport and in the greatly increased array of extra curricular activities now on offer. More wonderful still, and one of the great joys of this job, is seeing how the children have grown up over the year, how well they work and play together, and how enthusiastic they are for school life. Many thanks to all of my colleagues, for making all of this a reality.
The last day of term, next Tuesday will be an optional ‘mufti’ day; children who would like to wear home clothes are invited to contribute £1 (or more) towards the School’s India appeal. Term ends at around 12:30, after the whole school Mass.
The summer holiday provides so many opportunities for learning in a far broader sense than the timetable affords, and I do hope the children will make the most of the time off. We’d very much encourage the children to keep reading over the holidays, and would recommend Hampshire Library’s summer reading challenge. Older pupils might enjoy making a scrapbook or keeping a journal about the highlights of their summer, and travel, cookery and DIY provide plenty of opportunities for practical problem solving. I do hope you and your children have a thoroughly refreshing and relaxing break. I wish our Year 6 leavers ‘bon voyage’, and look forward to welcoming everyone else back on 9th September.
