U12 Netball Tournament

|

There was a lot of expectation from this team as they have not lost a match since September. They have gradually shown famtastic improvement and now look a well established team. Word had also got out and the tournament organiser also mentioned she expected to see us in the final - pressure!
So, on a cold evening Alton began their first tournament. None of them knew what to expect and were very nervous. Through the rounds we had 3 tough games with close results but all resulting in a win for us. One game was very easy with Alton winning 8 - 0 , that settled their nerves a bit!!! I felt that we were lacking  a bit of width throughout the rounds and so their focus was to improve on this in the Semi Final. Crikey - what a shock that was! The game was played 5 mins each way and at half time we were 2 - 2. I could not see how we were going to break through but then some inspired play by Amy Leather and Rebecca Humphrey led to the all important goal taking us to 3 - 2 with our centre pass next! Alton put all thier practice into the game with a perfect centre pass routine resulting in a goal. We won 4 - 2! They were so excited - first tournament and straight into the final! We just had to wait and see agaisnt whom - it was Farnborough Hill. This was the one team we had not had  a friendly with so we had no idea how they played. Their Goal shooter was as tall as ours!
So, it began. Alton were so up for it that straight away we went 3 - 1 up. I couldnt believe how well they were playing. Farnborough then got a couple back and so at half time it was 3- 3. In the last half each team onl;y scored 1 goal each ao at the final whistle it was a draw! 5 mins extra time had to be played. Farnborough scored first and we then hit straight back with another goal. Unfortunately we then had our one bad centre pass whicxh resulted in them scoring in the last minute. A final result of 6 - 5! Alton were understandably disappointed but as a team they put so much drive and entusiasm into the game - they were stars. For a first tournament I could not have asked for more - the only game they have lost all season - roll on next year!!
