Pre-Prep Spring 08

In Pre-Prep we aim for an holistic approach, and therefore the majority of our work is cross-curricular. The first half term our topic is Homes. The topic will look at the different homes people live in throughout the world, as well as animal homes. After half term we shall be starting our Growth topic, which, due to the short term, will continue after Easter. Throughout the topic we will be looking at how we grow, as well as growing seeds and plants.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

This will continue to feature heavily as the children continue to adapt to the many changes, and responsibilities they now have within Pre-Prep. We will continue to encourage the children to take responsibility for themselves, their possessions and their actions.

Communication, Language and Literacy

Language development covers a wide range of rhymes, stories, and poems. The children will be encouraged as a group to participate in rhymes and poems, and will be introduced to Jolly Phonics through Jolly Phonics jingles.

Mathematical Development

Mathematical development will feature highly within the normal working day and is covered within the topic in numerous ways from group work to individual sessions, thereby meeting the needs of the individual child.

Knowledge & Understanding of the World

We will be looking at various investigations, experiments, and technology. The children will be designing and making houses from junk, as well as looking at various building materials. They will have the opportunity to make bubble & soap sculptures as well as an ice mountain. We will be celebrating Chinese New Year and, of course, Easter.

Physical Development

The children's physical development will be met on a daily basis through our regular afternoon excursions to the woods and the adventure playground, always popular with the children regardless of the weather. The children will have weekly PE lessons where they will experience a variety of different apparatus, and weekly Music and Movement lessons. Weekly dance classes will continue on Mondays lead by Mrs Golborn.

Creative Development

Creative development will continue to feature new experiences for the children. They will again be involved in creating the many different displays, including group as well as individual displays within the classrooms. They will experience using a wide variety of different media including pulp, mod-roc, dough and various paint mixes. They will be making a vast array of creative masterpieces from painted and decorated houses, to tipis made from mod-roc. Cookery sessions will continue to delight the children and hopefully you will enjoy the fruits of their labour for tea on Friday evenings! Gourmet delights will include sandwiches, chocolate crispy cakes, cake houses, jam turnovers, apple crumble, cheese straws and bird cakes.

It is emphasised that the above is offered as a guide only, and the school retains the flexibility to adapt its schemes of work to the needs of the individual or the class
