Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Assessed Expedition

The Bronze expedition season was completed successfully. The 2007/8 Bronze D of E year ended on a note of success, when six IV Form girls completed their final navigation assessment. This has been a very busy time for these girls as they fitted in expeditions around their examinations. Well done!
Thanks also goes to Upper Lanham and Chase Farms for their continued support and generosity.
I think I can describe the entire D of E with one word: Interesting. Our first attempt went very well on the first day at least; and even camping (which most girls recoil in horror at the thought of) proved quite fun. Harriet especially, when combined with an open flame proved an ‘eventful’ combination. The second day did not go quite so well, due to er… leadership issues. Skip on to 3.00pm and we were hot, tired, thirsty and literally miles of course. Fortunately we happened to have stumbled into the garden of the local millionaire, who reacted very admirably to the sight of 7 exhausted girls sprawled over his immaculate steps. Rosie & Jim (sorry, the assessors) decided to give us another chance. This time we managed to complete with a few (minor) mishaps and on time as well. All, in all, a very valuable learning experience for all of us and if I can’t say anything else, at least I know how to read a compass.
