U11 Cricket vs St Margaret's

| |

The Alton U11 cricket team journeyed to Midhurst to play St Margaret's. Once again the team found themselves sent into bat and after four overs had chalked up 219 runs on the board. Jacob and William began to take control until Jacob gave away his wicket cheaply. The next pair of Edward and Josh from Yr4 (his first game with the U11s) added 19 runs to make the score 250 with six overs to go out of the total of 15. Sadly Alton did not capitalize on St Margaret's bowling and lost three more wickets by bad batting. After the allotted 15 overs Alton scored a modest four wickets for 251.

St Margaret's battled bravely through the early stages of their innings despite losing two quick wickets to Jacob. Yet they began to gain ascendancy bringing their score to 226 with 8 overs to play. This was largely due to very poor bowling by Alton's more experienced players trying too hard and too quick. Thank heavens for Lewis, Tom and Joel who between them restricted St Margaret's score to only one run. To cap off the resurgence of good tight, slow, accurate bowling Josh clean bowled the last of the St Margaret's batsmen in the last over, gaining the figures of 2 for 5 with the opposition slumping to 6 for 222. Alton's fielding is steadily improving but much work is needed on the bowling front if the team is to have any thoughts of reaching the final. Joel again gave a consistent performance to gain the "Man of the Match " award.
