AS Law visit to Legal London

|

The AS Law group recently spent a fascinating day exploring Legal London on foot.

Starting with a pre-arranged conducted tour of the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand, the highlight proved to be exploring the famous, book lined Court 4 where the Lord Chief Justice regularly sits to hear many important cases. We then heard a number of appeals from various Crown Courts that were being reheard in the Court of Appeal, Criminal Division. Our law lessons suddenly came alive as we watched the judges use judicial precedent so adeptly.

After walking through Lincoln’s Inn Fields we were welcomed by Mrs Blake, Associate Dean and Director of Studies at the Inns of Court. She gave us invaluable advice on university choices and the career opportunities available to the legal profession.

Our day ended listening to an attempted murder trial in Court 14 at the Old Bailey. Finally, before we left the building a court usher showed us a very atmospheric but empty Victorian court room and told us some of the chilling cases that make the Bailey such a popular venue for law students.

We certainly had much to ponder afterwards. It was a day to remember and a very fulfilling experience.
