Police visit to the Lower Prep

| | |

PC Beck from the Hampshire Constabulary visited the Lower Prep children at Alton Convent School. He talked about the very important role police officers play in our community, questioning people who have done wrong things and helping to fight crime. He made it clear that the police are there to look after us and keep us safe. The children delighted in listening to real conversations on the police radio and enjoyed trying various hats and jackets on; even the teachers joined in and Miss Burchfield really looked the part in a police lady's uniform!

The children had plenty of questions, such as "Why do you have different hats?" and "Do you use your handcuffs?", which of course led to all of the children experiencing what it actually felt like to wear handcuffs for themselves. Luckily the handcuffs were a little on the large side, so they all made a quick escape back to their lessons on time.

The children really gained a lot from the visit and will, I'm sure, remember the advice given to them in such a friendly and practical way.
