UVI Cultural Weekend in Amsterdam
On the 2nd February the Upper Sixth were given the opportunity to visit Amsterdam for a long weekend. After spending five long hours travelling to our destination we finally arrived and straight away had the cultural shock of the trams and how jam-packed they were, which would never be allowed in England. Two of us were even sat on the windowsill!
After such a hectic day our beds were very welcoming, though it was not for long as we had an early start the next morning to visit the Van Gogh museum, followed by the Heineken museum. By the time we had finished our tour it was time for the Very Important Rugby Match, and Mr Maher managed to find a sports bar full of English tourists also watching the game.
The next morning was hard, to say the least. Yet another early morning and straight to the Risk art gallery and the diamond factory where we were able to try on rings worth five thousand euros.
On our last day we went to Anne Frank's house, which was a very emotional tour and we were able to explore her secret life behind the book. This was sadly the end of our very memorable weekend, which had not only taught us to appreciate a new culture, but also created memories that will last us a lifetime.
