Mission Statement
‘Be the best that you can be’
The Roman Catholic faith underpins everything that we do at Alton Convent School. It is the basis for our value system and is the core of our philosophy that every child matters. The emphasis on the individual within the wider community is a necessary foundation for the happiness and success of the school. All pupils participate in acts of worship and are expected to support the school’s ethos. We welcome pupils of all faiths and those of none.
Our Catholic Ethos
Alton Convent School is one of the leading independent Catholic schools in Hampshire with a long tradition of pursuing excellence in education within a caring environment. Our guiding principles are drawn from the Constitution of the Sisters of Our Lady of Providence, our founders:
- Personal faith: ‘The knowledge which the pupils acquire of the world, of life is seen in the light of faith.’
- Mutual respect: ‘Open to all, concerned for all, however we show, as Christ did, a special love for the poor and lowly.’
- Development of personal talents: ‘Pupils will be helped to develop their own personalities and strengths.’
Pupils of all faiths and those of none
We are a Catholic school with values that appeal to many families, and all are welcome. The faith and denominational background of each pupil is respected. Every pupil participates in daily assemblies, school masses, religious education lessons and retreats.
‘In his great wisdom and in planning the existence of the school, God saw its needs and gave to those who would be involved in its foundation and growth, the qualities required.’ Sister Madeleine, our founder
