Taster Day for potential new Year 7

Taster Day at Alton Convent School on Thursday 18th October was a big success.  Girls sampled lessons and enjoyed making Gluep, a messy business until suddenly the coloured mixture tightens and forms a malleable ball.  Mrs Duffy also experimented this year with ‘Moaning Myrtles’  balloons and nuts (and bolts variety that is!) that wailed as the balloons were spun in a circular motion. This proved a popular addition to the Chemistry repertoire and  parents were eagerly shown these items when they came to collect their daughters.

The pupils also enjoyed creative construction work in Physics – with jelly babies and spaghetti, an introduction to German, creative writing in English, jelly baby families in geography,  and work based on Matisse in Art.  Year 8 were attentive helpers and looked after the girls as they all had lunch together in the new Refectory and then played games with them before the final Dance session.

Parents arrived to collect happy but tired girls who eagerly chatted about their experiences. One young pupil was overheard eagerly telling mum, ” It was really messy but good fun, I ’ve had a great day!”  They seemed eager to return to Alton Convent School even when their next visit will be for the Entrance exam in January.
