4S Reap what they have sown!
Earlier in the year when the present 4S were in 3B, they cultivated an area in the walled garden, planting beetroot, carrot, pepper and pansy seeds.
Last week Mrs. Bird took the class to see what had happened to them over the summer. To the children’s delight, they were able to harvest several carrots and beetroot, and were able to admire the blooms on the pansies. After bringing the crop back to class and washing off the soil, a tasty salad was made.
Ms Seth-Smith was able to show them how to grate the ingredients and add a splash of lemon juice. It proved very popular with the children. The whole process was a great lesson in growing and enjoying their own harvest.
