Year 5 visit Intech
‘Space Week at Intech!’ sounded like a very exciting event and so it turned out to be for a group of budding scientists from Year 5. On arrival at the interactive science and technology centre the children were shown straight in to the Planetarium where they were whisked away on an amazing tour of the solar system, galaxy and universe.
Following this, everyone’s brains and practical skills were put to good use in a group workshop. The task was to design a container that would transport a fragile payload (in the form of an egg!) safely through a vertical drop of 4 metres. The childrens’ designs worked wonderfully well – in fact, rather better than those of the teachers!
After lunch, activities focused on learning about the world of satellite technology. The children took part in a fascinating range of interactive activities helped by space experts from Astrium who were on hand to guide the children through their investigations.
On arrival back at school the children received an incredible range of free gifts from Astrium, including pencils, posters and planet covered rulers. This is superb day of learning for the children – we are very lucky to have a centre like Intech so easily accessible from school.
