Convent Pupils take part in World Choir Games!
At the beginning of the summer holidays Eleanor German, Isabelle Pay, Nikki Smith, Rebecca Rogers, Annabelle Hanssen and I, Amelia Pay toured the States with Farnham Youth Choir. As a choir we were taking part in the World Choir Olympics, which is the largest choir competition in the world.
It was a great honour being the only choir representing the United Kingdom, despite being an extremely nerve-wracking experience. After numerous rehearsals and hours and hours of practicing we were finally prepared to take part competing against three hundred and sixty two other international choirs from forty eight countries.
We were gold medal winners in the Equal Voices category and received a silver medal in the Musica Sacra category, which was amazing! Whilst visiting New York we had the fantastic opportunity to see the Empire State Building, Central Park, The Rockefeller Tower and were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour at the Royal Opera House.
On the last day of the tour we sang a program of sacred songs in St. Paul’s Chapel at Ground Zero. This chapel is known as the Church that Stood, as it survived the terrorist attack of 9/11. This was a very moving end to a wonderful, tour, and one that we will remember for the rest of our lives.
