Year 5 visit the Isle of Wight

Sugar snipping, boot blacking, fossil finding and disco dancing were only some of the events on offer at a memorable week in the Isle of Wight. Year 5 threw themselves into every activity with abandon and enthusiasm except, perhaps, for loading and unloading the coach on the last day.

Teachers and pupils enjoyed clement weather on most days and took advantage of this on their visits to the beach, although we did end up eating ice creams in the rain. This did not dampen anyone’s enthusiasm for the dripping vanilla or the soggy chocolate flakes.

Osborne House amazed and delighted, while rambling around the ramparts of Carisbrooke Castle is always enjoyable. Pupils learned about life as a servant in Victorian times and warfare in medieval times as well as a practical observation on coastal erosion. They found fossils to bring home with them – lucky parents, and bought glass after seeing how it was made.

Altogether another memorable week.
